A faster, higher-flying Army sensing node.
HADES—publicly identified as mission design series ME-11B—is the Army’s next-generation fixed-wing aerial intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance effort. Modified Bombardier Global 6500 business jets are intended to replace or consolidate missions performed by older turboprop fleets while supporting deeper sensing, faster self-deployment and modular mission integration.
The program’s public thesis is straightforward: altitude, speed, range, payload and onboard processing expand the useful sensing envelope for Multi-Domain Operations. The harder question is survivability. A non-stealth business-jet derivative remains a standoff node, not an invulnerable penetrator, so mission value depends on threat-aware routing, survivability equipment, distributed sensors and potentially launched effects.
Public reporting supports a real, funded and progressing acquisition effort with meaningful prototype activity. It does not support claims of a hidden “Hades Plan,” unusual corruption or disclosed classified performance. The resolved L3Harris protest is an acquisition record—not evidence of impropriety.

Operational context
The stated capability gap dates to Army analysis beginning in 2018, followed by requirements work in 2020. Legacy turboprops face range, altitude, endurance and mission-payload constraints in contested environments. Publicly described objectives include rapid global self-deployment, reduced dependence on forward basing, onboard AI/ML-assisted processing and tighter sensor-to-shooter timelines—with humans and command authorities remaining responsible for consequential decisions.

Prototype aircraft use the Bombardier Global 6500 as the modification baseline. The values below combine reported Army requirements and commercial-airframe claims; they should not be read as verified mission-configured performance.
Public materials also reference excess power and cooling, modular open systems, external-store provisions and a digital backbone. Earlier claims approaching 70,000 feet and endurance above 18 hours require careful attribution: commercial aircraft capability, solicitation thresholds and mission-configured performance are different things.

A lead integrator, a ceiling and a resolved protest.
Sierra Nevada Corporation was selected as lead systems integrator under a reported 12-year indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity arrangement with a $991.3 million ceiling and a $93.5 million initial award. A ceiling is not committed expenditure. Bombardier Defense supplies the airframe, while public reporting associates Raytheon, Collins/AST, L3Harris, DDC-I and CAE with parts of the mission or training ecosystem.
The L3Harris protest was denied or dismissed through the GAO process, with public summaries describing SNC’s stronger technical evaluation and lower evaluated cost. That record supports the legality of the evaluated award decision; it should not be inflated into a broader judgment about every future program outcome.
Funding signals
Public budget summaries cite a new FY2026 aircraft-procurement line near $26.9 million, substantial RDT&E within PE 0604036A, and a potential FY2027 procurement increase. Budget requests, enacted appropriations, obligations and outlays are different measures; this dossier does not collapse them into a single “program cost.”

Do not mistake an objective for an order.
Public numbers have moved from early concepts of roughly 14–16 aircraft to an Army Transformation Initiative scenario involving a smaller production fleet. Later statements have been summarized as three prototypes plus six production aircraft, while market-research language has preserved room for additional airframes. These are planning signals at different maturity levels—not one stable, authorized fleet total.
Force-structure reporting also links the 116th MI Brigade’s movement toward Fort Hood with infrastructure better suited to larger jets. Personnel and basing figures should be confirmed against final stationing decisions rather than treated as complete solely from planning announcements.
Standoff is a design constraint.
High altitude and speed improve access and coverage but do not make a non-stealth aircraft survivable inside every anti-access/area-denial envelope. Public responses include aircraft survivability equipment, layered sensing, mission planning and experimentation with air-launched effects for ISR, electronic warfare or decoy roles. Reported external hard-point weights and ranges describe requirements or experiments—not confirmed operational loadouts.
